Science obsession

April 23, 2014 in Science - No Comments
Spring break has officially begun!  The beginning of it was busy with all the Easter festivities, but now I can sit back, relax, and enjoy my time off…wishful thinking!!!  I have so much spring cleaning, organizing, and planning to do I don’t even think I will ever finish it all (good thing I’m not dramatic).  However, today I took some time to have fun.  My mom and I took my cousins out for their birthdays…yes, those are my cousins…my uncle is 4 years older than me…anyways, I digress.  My cousin is obsessed with science (a boy after my own heart).  So we took him to this place in Worcester, MA called the Ecotarium.  We had a blast!  I love seeing kids interested in something I love, like science.  Not to toot my own horn or anything, but I am the favorite cousin because I teach science and I saw Bill Nye (his words not mine) TOOT TOOT!
They got to try on this gear that a naturalist wears.  It was so cute!  The both took turns trying it on and running around to look at all the different things to see.

The museum has lots of great hands on activities that get the kids involved.  These pinwheels were set up in front of an air duct and you had to arrange foam blocks to change the flow of air.  It was awesome!

There were foxes, otters, hawks, eagles (see above), porcupines, skunks, ferrets, macaws, turtles, lizards, fish, and my favorite OWLS.  I have a weird obsession with owls.  I have owl trinkets all over my house and classroom.  It was really neat to be able to see all these animals!
I would love to be able to take my class on a field trip here, but it’s too far away from our school.  I am pretty sure that I had as much fun as my cousins did today.  It was neat to see science be like magic to them.  It was something that grabbed their attention and they were so enthralled.
However, the fun is over and it’s time to get back to work!  I’m hoping to finish up a few products for my TPT and TN stores and finally clean and organize my house!  Here’s hoping to a productive Wednesday…fingers crossed!
